How it works

1

Upload or paste JSON

Upload a .json file or paste your JSON array directly into the editor.

2

Preview your data

Download your data as a clean .xlsx file with auto-sized columns. That's it.

Note: This tool works with JSON arrays of objects. Each object becomes a row in the Excel sheet, and the keys become column headers. For document extraction to JSON, try Parsli AI.

What this tool handles

Works great with

  • API response data (REST, GraphQL outputs)
  • Database exports in JSON format
  • Configuration files and settings data
  • Web scraping results and data feeds
  • Flat arrays of objects with consistent keys

For these, try Parsli AI

  • Extracting structured data from PDFs
  • Scanned documents and images (OCR)
  • Custom extraction schemas with validation
  • Automated workflows (Sheets, Zapier, API)
  • Batch processing hundreds of documents

Tips for better JSON to Excel conversion

Use flat JSON arrays, not nested objects

The tool works best with arrays of flat objects where values are strings, numbers, or booleans. Deeply nested objects will be stringified in the Excel output.

Validate your JSON before converting

Make sure your JSON is valid — matching brackets, proper quoting, no trailing commas. The tool will show a clear error if the JSON can't be parsed.

Consistent keys produce the cleanest output

If all objects in your array share the same keys, the Excel output will have clean, filled columns. Mixed keys still work — missing values become empty cells.

Column order follows key order

Columns in the Excel file follow the order keys appear across all objects. Keys from the first object appear first, then any additional keys from subsequent objects.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool really free?

Yes, completely free with no limits. There are no hidden charges, no watermarks, and no sign-up required. We built this as a free utility for the community.

Do you store or upload my JSON data?

No. Your JSON is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The data never leaves your device and is never sent to any server. Your data stays 100% private.

What JSON format does this tool accept?

The tool accepts a JSON array of objects. Example: [{"name": "John", "age": 30}, {"name": "Jane", "age": 25}]. Each object becomes a row, and the keys become column headers.

Can I paste JSON instead of uploading a file?

Yes! You can either upload a .json file or switch to paste mode and paste your JSON array directly. Both methods produce the same result.

What if my JSON objects have different keys?

The tool collects all unique keys across all objects and creates a column for each. If an object is missing a key, the cell will be empty in the Excel output.

Does it handle nested JSON objects?

This tool works best with flat JSON arrays (objects with string/number/boolean values). Nested objects and arrays will be converted to their string representation. For complex nested JSON, consider flattening it first.

What's the difference between this and Parsli?

This free tool does direct JSON-to-Excel conversion. Parsli is a full AI-powered document extraction platform — it extracts structured JSON from PDFs, images, and scanned documents using custom schemas.

Can I convert JSON to Excel on my phone?

Yes. This tool works on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Open the page in your mobile browser, upload or paste your JSON, and download the Excel file directly.

What file size limit is there?

Up to 50 MB for file uploads. Since everything runs in your browser, very large files may take longer to process depending on your device.

Are columns auto-sized in the Excel output?

Yes. The tool automatically adjusts column widths based on the content length, making the downloaded Excel file immediately readable without manual resizing.

How to Convert JSON to Excel for Free

Converting JSON data to Excel spreadsheets is essential for developers and analysts who need to share data with teams that prefer working in spreadsheets. Whether you have API responses, database exports, or web scraping results in JSON format, this tool converts them to clean .xlsx files instantly.

Unlike other converters, this tool runs entirely in your browser. Your JSON data is never uploaded to any server. You can paste JSON directly or upload a file — the conversion happens locally on your device, keeping your data completely private.

When Do You Need AI-Powered Document Extraction?

This free converter handles straightforward JSON-to-Excel conversion. But if you need to extract structured data from unstructured documents — PDFs, images, invoices, receipts — you need AI-powered extraction.

Parsli uses Google's Gemini AI to understand document context and extract exactly the fields you need. Define a schema, upload any document, and get structured data as JSON or Excel automatically.
